SAFETY STOP

Part Chandelier, Part Sculpture

An intense collaboration with the owner, an avid diver and adventurer, for their new family home included bringing to life experiences from underwater via the main sculptural lighting fixtures we have entitled Safety Stop — yes, the standard three-minute stop required for divers to undertake before surfacing the water. The view from a safety stop, as a diver looks up to the surface is usually riddled by the hulls of the boats, locally called bangka, and some sea critters, particularly the elusive jelly fish, just passing through.

Made with a Vinta-inspired steel structure meticulously painted to a brass-like finish, sculpted wooden boats (with touches of bamboo and abaca) and the capiz shell embodied jellyfish, Safety Stop reveals a distinct form from afar and when experienced as a diner beneath, the entire sea is with you as the sway of the jellyfish also releases a sound only beheld in the tropics.

Two chandeliers were designed, developed, and constructed. One for the main dining area with an 18-seater table, and another for an 8-seater table.
