Silip

Nestled within the gentlest part of the slope, this residence was designed to preserve the site’s natural topography by minimizing disruption to the land. Facade screens provide sun shading while creating a dialogue with the surrounding trees, allowing the structure to echo the forest’s silhouette. Materials such as corten steel and boardform concrete were used to soften the transition between architecture and nature, aging gracefully over time and blending seamlessly into the landscape.

From multiple interior and exterior angles, the house frames shifting perspectives of the nature that defines the site, reinforcing this dialogue between built form and landscape. Aside from being a visual motif, the screen casts shadows that animate the interior spaces throughout the day. The main windows are oriented towards the North to be able to maximize the use of natural lighting in the interior. A lap pool is hidden from the exterior view with a berm, but is one of the main focal points from the garden that is connected to the main spaces.

At night, the residence takes on a lantern-like presence with the surrounding trees, as its screens are illuminated by warm lighting. When the lights are subdued, the intricacy of the screen pattern becomes more pronounced, revealing a continuation of the forest silhouette. Functionally, the screen provides a sense of privacy for the occupants while maintaining a visual connectivity to the main road and the landscape. The design thoughtfully balances sensitivity to the site, materiality and tropical design.
