Blackbox Katipunan

We were presented with an existing 100 sqm space that was envisioned to become a new homebase to a returning post-pandemic crowd in the heart of Katipunan. The main goal of the design was to create something unique yet simple, and to be able to construct it within a budget and short timeframe. Elements from the old space were incorporated in the design of the bar to reduce construction costs. The black box, one of the main design features, was a glass enclosure that was left in the space and repurposed to become the private lounge in the bar. A swooping curved wall houses the main bar, and is the focal point of the space. It is cladded with stainless steel and linear lights on the edges to accentuate its curves. Storage was designed into inverted arches that evoke a sense of movement drawing the eyes across the space with a sense of gentle undisturbed motion. Three arches in perfect balance with one another.
