Located in a bustling tourist area in Antipolo, the project is a commercial center that is rooted in community, nature, and its context. The main concept for the structure was for it to become a third space - to provide the users (locals and tourists) a small village where community and economic activities meet. The site itself is a sloping lot with several fully-grown trees of different species that are preserved to become a focal point for the views of the commercial units. As the user experiences the different parts of the building, they are always greeted by a view of the site’s various trees. The common spaces of the structure allow the people to be closer to the natural landscape, as outdoor seating is designed into these.
As the main function of the building is to be a commercial center, profitability is one of the main goals of the design. A modular grid layout allows for prefabricated construction that is more economical. This also allows for easier commercial configurations as it provides regular cuts for tenants. Natural ventilation and lighting are integrated to both reduce operations costs, and provide better aesthetic quality in the interiors. Lastly, the final goal was for the structure to be welcoming and accessible for all users. The common spaces become the heart of the building as they become a flexible space where the community can connect with one another.
